Cyprus is a Mediterranean unitary republic operating a mixed-legal-system framework combining common-law procedural inheritance from the British colonial period with civil-law statutory layers and the family-court jurisdictions for the recognised religious communities. Family-law matters are heard by specialised Family Courts (Οικογενειακά Δικαστήρια) under the Family Courts Law of 1990.
